DIRECTORS INTENTIONS

Wasp

I believe the director Arnold for Wasp 2003 had a purpose of educating an audience, of course, the film indulges into sensitive topics of deprivation, child neglect and risky decisions; however, the short film educates spectators into the hectic lives of the poor, how sometimes there is no choice for your actions. Ultimately, Arnold forces the spectators to end up sympathising for the mother, although her actions are reckless we understand that her as an individual needs a "break" from her chaotic lifestyle every now and again. The film also links to the single mother ideology, and the desperation she feels for normality, this is in fact a common representation in deprived area's, Arnold bases the short film off of societal stereotypes. Arnold most certainly expresses the contemporary UK society in this short, diving into the lives of the poor. Sequences of the mother fighting other mothers, scavenging for food in her flat, leaving the children in the car park outside a pub all relate to the typical representations of the hardships of impoverished families.
